Civic Area

55 Degrees by Adam Kuby

This project was commissioned in 2017 to support the park’s goals to become an ever-vibrant community destination, engaging for all ages. Adam is working closely with Living Design Studios, an award-winning metal fabrication shop based in Boulder County, for oversight and construction of this public art commission.

Installation is underway – follow project updates on our Instagram page @boulderartsculture

During construction hours, visitors to the park should be prepared to detour to the sidewalk on the south side of the creek. Do not use the parking lot as your detour. Detours will only be in place during active construction and are for everyone’s safety.

About the Artwork

55 Degrees by Adam Kuby

Kuby designed 55 Degrees as a sculptural reference to Boulder’s iconic Flatirons. This work brings the drama of these geologic formations into downtown Boulder in a dramatic, visceral yet abstract way. 55 Degrees will feature three large-scale rectangular sculptures that create openings, windows, or gateways to frame experiences around the park. The angled, planar steel sculptures are oriented to match both the north-south orientation of the Flatirons and their 55-degree angle from horizontal.

Boulder Civic Area Project

The Civic Area is a parkland and cultural hub that invites its community to play, engage, learn, contemplate, and converse. The public art opportunities for this space will be temporary and permanent, all working together to create an “ever vibrant,” alive, and constantly changing artistic environment that is exciting and engaging for all ages. Permanent signature artwork/s is desired to be located at the north end of the park as a highly visible destination and iconic meeting place on a civic scale.
